A 1962 ranch meets 2026 heat pump economics
Sixty-year-old ductwork, a dying gas furnace, and owners curious about electrification. The honest math pointed to a dual-fuel heat pump — so that's what we built.

The owners asked a good question: does full electrification make sense on our rates, in our house? We modeled it properly — their actual usage history against current Austin-area rates — and the answer was nuanced: a heat pump would carry 95% of their heating hours, but keeping a small gas furnace as cold-snap backup beat resistance strips on both cost and resilience.
We installed a Bosch inverter heat pump matched to a compact 80% furnace, sealed and re-balanced the original ductwork (leakage dropped from 27% to 6%), and filed their federal 25C credit paperwork.
Winter bills fell by roughly a third, summer efficiency improved two SEER classes, and the system earned its keep in the first February freeze.
